Keloid Treatment – What It Is

    Θεραπεία χηλοειδών – Τι είναι

Keloid scars are hypertrophic scars that extend beyond the boundaries of the original wound or incision and gradually appear after the skin has healed. The skin becomes raised and red, usually itchy, and they are due to an individual’s predisposition affecting the healing process. If a person has developed a keloid, they are likely to develop one again in a future wound or invasive treatment.

Keloids are not surgically treatable again, and such an attempt will fail. Special management techniques are required for keloids because a new surgery will not resolve the issue and may actually worsen the problem.

Plastic Surgeon G. Chorti has the unique KTP Laser Aura, specifically for the treatment of keloid scars. It is applied with complete safety and extensive experience, including in children from 4 years old, with very good results. The scar is scanned with the laser either entirely or in sections if extensive, and it gradually disappears over the next 2–3 months. In some cases, repeating the procedure is necessary to remove any residual tissue.

The treatment is performed without anesthesia in the clinic.

Additionally, keloid treatment can be done with injections of a special form of corticosteroid (triamcinolone) into the keloid 2–3 times, gradually reducing it until complete disappearance.
