Eyelid Tumors – Treatment

The nodules that appear on the eyelids are, in the vast majority of cases, benign formations such as warts, chalazion, xanthelasma, or styes. Each lesion must be evaluated for malignancy (basal cell carcinoma, sebaceous gland carcinoma, melanoma).

If clinical examination indicates that excision is required, the lesion is removed and sent for biopsy. In case of confirmed malignancy, a wider excision is performed to ensure healthy margins. This is followed by reconstructive surgery of the skin using the appropriate surgical techniques, depending on the size of the excision.

These techniques may include simple closure with minimal scarring, local skin flap transfer from a nearby area, or skin grafting to cover the defect, performed in one or more stages.
